Beaumaris Theatre Company's fourth production of 2002 was Australian Playwright, David Williamson's play "Brilliant Lies".
Susy's, an attractive and ambitious woman in her Mid 20's, is suing her former employer Gary for sexual harassment and unfair dismissal. But was harassment really the case here, or is Susy's focus more on the $40,000 compensation she is claiming?
In order for us to more clearly understand Susy, we are introduced to her lesbian sister, fanatically religious brother and drunken father. We also meet Marion, the legal mediator, whose pursuit for truth and justice is clearly challenged by this unusual and somewhat inconsistent claim.
The dilemma of who to believe is left to the audience when tempers flare and the clash between different perceptions of reality reveal gaping differences between the male and female view of the same incident.
Who is telling the truth here? Or can there be many layers of truth in cases such as these?
