Based on the powerful and prophetic book by George Orwell, this is a play for those who enjoy a challenging night of theatre.
Not relevant to today's world? Think again! Perhaps in 1984 the world had not progressed as George Orwell envisaged it could. However, in 2004 we have interactive technology, we have dominance of much of the media by government and business interests which 'inform' us of 'children overboard' and 'weapons of mass destruction', we have laws enacted in the name of 'peace', 'democracy' and 'homeland security' which curtail personal and political freedoms.
However we also have
art, culture, philosophy, science, travel opportunities and other
elements of humanity that were denied in George Orwell's world of
'1984'. To protect these we must remain vigilant and continue to ask
questions about what is happening in our world.
