Remember Ronald Ryan

Remember Ronald Ryan is based on a true account of the events in Ronald Ryan's life, the last man to be hanged in Australia, in 1967.

It is written by well known and respected Australian writer Mr Barry Dickins. This play was commissioned and premiered at "The Playbox" theatre in 1994 with great success, and thereafter won the 1995 Premier's Literary Award.

It is a tragic tale, but contains humorous elements throughout and provides constant movement and colour to both entertain and promote serious questioning by the audience. For those who lived through the controversy surrounding the sentencing and hanging of Ryan, the play will evoke many memories. For others too young to remember, the issues the play explores are just as relevant.

Director Robyn Lester took a compassionate approach to the story of Ronald Ryan. Fine acting from a strong cast brought that story alive.
