Deborah Fabbro is the extraordinary director who will bring the Aussie play Knife Edge to life this May. We asked Deborah to step under the spotlight so we can get to know her better.
What was your first role in the theatre? (on stage or off)
My first performance was a rendition of “Frosty the Snowman” when I was about 5. My biggest memory of it was the beautiful satin, white ‘fur’ lined and edged muff that formed part of the costume. It’s probably the only time I’ve sung on stage. And if people heard me now as a adult, they be very happy that I don’t!
What place brings you the most joy?
The theatre or the sea – it’s a toss-up
What was your most memorable theatrical experience?
In 2017, we took a one-act play to the OAP Festivals in Victoria then the playwright arranged for us to tour the production to Hobart in 2018. It was a beautiful play and I had a fabulous cast and everything just aligned perfectly.
What is your favourite midnight snack?
Sultanas
When you are not at the theatre, where can you be found?
By the sea or curled up with a book.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favourite line of dialogue from Knife Edge?
“A knife is quite difficult to handle when there’s delicate work to be done”
Why do you think Knife Edge will resonate with audiences?
It’s a beautifully written play exploring life and relationships, and audiences will find something to relate to in the journey each of the characters goes on.
Knife Edge will run from 9-24 May, 2025
