In the Spotlight with Sam Wyles

This month, Sam Wyles returns to the Beaumaris Theatre stage as Baldrick in Blackadder II.

We asked Sam to step into the spotlight so we can get to know him better.

What was your first role in the theatre? (on stage or off)?

My first role on stage was in high school. The play was Hoods written by Angela Betzein. I played the part of Kyle, and I still have such fond memories of the performance. One of my favourite pieces I have been a part of.
Who in the show is most like their character?

Well, I’ve only known them for a short time, but Ben definitely stands out as being most like their character. I’ve just found him to be super witty and naturally quite funny!

Without giving anything away, what’s your favourite line of dialogue from the show?

My line, “I used to hide in the vegetable rack and frighten the children”, is just so funny when you hear the context.
What place brings you the most joy?

Besides my cosy bed, I do just love being in the theatre. Any theatre at that, I’m not fussy.

What is your favourite midnight snack?

Jam and cheese sandwiches on buttered white bread. It’s a comfort, and I swear it's better than it sounds.

What is your dream show to work on?

One of my dream shows to work on was Cosi, which I had the opportunity to do here at Beaumaris Theatre! But for the longest time, I’ve always wanted to do Macbeth.

When you are not at the theatre, where can you be found?

Mostly at work, but on weekends, you should be able to find me hopping between friends’ places.
